Personal Injury: Claims: Occupational Disease

According to the Labour Force Survey approximately 2 million individuals in Great Britain suffer from an illness which they believe to be caused or made worse by their current or past work.

If you believe that you are suffering from an illness as a result of your work or workplace, then you may be able to make a claim against your employer for occupational disease.

Examples of occupational disease include:

  • Occupational Deafness (Also known as ‘Noise Induced Hearing Loss’ or NIHL) – Often caused by regular exposure to loud machinery, where your employer has failed to provide you with any or adequate ear protection. Noisy workplaces include mills and printers
  • Contact Dermatitis – Regular contact to irritant substances such as cleaning fluids, cement and releasing oils may result in you contracting dermatitis. If you are regularly exposed to such products at work, and did not have a skin condition before, then you may have a claim
  • Latex Allergy – If you are exposed to latex at work on a regular basis, for example if you wear latex gloves on a daily basis, and your GP has advised that you have an allergy to latex, then you may be able to pursue a personal injury claim against your employer. Examples of people who may contract latex allergies are nurses or other individuals who face everyday exposure to latex gloves. We may be able to help you.
